Overview

The story of Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel is broad, complex, and cannot be fully covered in a single day. For travelers eager to explore in depth, we offer two tours: one in the north of the city and another in the south. The northern tour visits sites connected to Escobar’s early steps in crime, his victims, and the place of his death—showing you areas that remain largely unexplored by most visitors.

Itinerary

  • Former La Ladera Prison: The facility where Escobar served his first sentences in the 1970s and made the decision to begin his drug trafficking career. Today, the site has been transformed into a library park and sports arena that foster community development.
  • San Pedro Cemetery: The city’s most prestigious cemetery, known for its luxurious mausoleums. Rumor has it that Escobar desecrated tombs here in his youth.
  • Lovaina sector: An area where several of Escobar’s and his cousin Gustavo Gaviria’s criminal activities took place.
  • Museum of Memory: A public museum with exhibits and personal stories of the victims of the Medellín Cartel. The museum is closed on Mondays (or Tuesdays when Monday is a holiday). If it is not open, events linked to Escobar will be explained in the surrounding area.
  • Gustavo Gaviria’s neighborhood: The area where Escobar’s cousin and first partner lived. From here, they coordinated criminal activities, investments, and community projects—some of which can still be seen today.
  • Place of Escobar's death: House where the kingpin was cornered and died (viewed from the outside).
